The recent introduction of number portability service into the Nigerian Telecommunications Industry by the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) is shaking up the base of top network providers in the country. This has led to a porting ad war amongst network providers in a bid to attract and/or keep customers - with both MTN and Etisalat at the receiving end of disses.
It seems the network provider, instead of improving their services (which are abysymally poor) are rather interested in wooing customers with hilarious adverts. Anyway if we are to oblige them and choose a network to port to based on the ads released so far, here are our picks.
1. MTN
Etisalat didn't see this coming but it was a major loss for the network whose brand is almost now synonymous to ace comedian Saka. Saka was popular with the Etisalat brand and nobody expected him to 'port' to MTN. Hee is unveiled in the commercial as he sings the theme song, emphasizing on 'I don port o... to MTN. Hilarious!
2. AIRTEL
Airtel kept it classy while taking shots at MTN. The ad shows a mobile man relocating from a dilapidated yellow painted building (presumably MTN) to a cleaner posh neighbourhood with houses painted red.Classy!
3. GLO
Glo also takes a swipe at MTN but we are not feeling the ad. We are not convinced enough to switch to Glo with this ad. We hope they will come up with a new portability ad since this one was released last year.
Etisalat
Etisalat is yet to respond to the MTN diss by releasing their own porting commercial but we know they have something funny in their sleeves. We see Etisalat beating them all in this game.
