First Gay Athlete: Jason Collins Says He's Gay

Posted on 08:56 by Unknown
Jason Collins is Gay

34-year-old Washington Wizards Center Jason Collins has just disclosed he is gay. In the May 6, 2013 issue of Sports Illustrated, Collins talks about his decision to come out despite the controversy of gays in sports:
 "I'm a 34-year-old NBA center. I'm black. And I'm gay."
I didn't set out to be the first openly gay athlete playing in a major American team sport. But since I am, I'm happy to start the conversation. I wish I wasn't the kid in the classroom raising his hand and saying, "I'm different." If I had my way, someone else would have already done this. Nobody has, which is why I'm raising my hand.
My journey of self-discovery and self-acknowledgement began in my hometown of Los Angeles and has taken me through two state high school championships, the NCAA Final Four and the Elite Eight, and nine playoffs in 12 NBA seasons.
I've played for six pro teams and have appeared in two NBA Finals. Ever heard of a parlor game called Three Degrees of Jason Collins? If you're in the league, and I haven't been your teammate, I surely have been one of your teammates' teammates. Or one of your teammates' teammates' teammates.
Now I'm a free agent, literally and figuratively. I've reached that enviable state in life in which I can do pretty much what I want. And what I want is to continue to play basketball. I still love the game, and I still have something to offer. My coaches and teammates recognize that. At the same time, I want to be genuine and authentic and truthfu
On why he is coming out the closet now:

Jason Collins

Well, I started thinking about this in 2011 during the NBA player lockout. I'm a creature of routine. When the regular season ends I immediately dedicate myself to getting game ready for the opener of the next campaign in the fall. But the lockout wreaked havoc on my habits and forced me to confront who I really am and what I really want. With the season delayed, I trained and worked out. But I lacked the distraction that basketball had always provided. The first relative I came out to was my aunt Teri, a superior court judge in San Francisco. Her reaction surprised me. "I've known you were gay for years," she said. From that moment on I was comfortable in my own skin. In her presence I ignored my censor button for the first time. She gave me support. The relief I felt was a sweet release. Imagine you're in the oven, baking. Some of us know and accept our sexuality right away and some need more time to cook. I should know -- I baked for 33 years.
When I was younger I dated women. I even got engaged. I thought I had to live a certain way. I thought I needed to marry a woman and raise kids with her. I kept telling myself the sky was red, but I always knew it was blue.
I realized I needed to go public when Joe Kennedy, my old roommate at Stanford and now a Massachusetts congressman, told me he had just marched in Boston's 2012 Gay Pride Parade. I'm seldom jealous of others, but hearing what Joe had done filled me with envy. I was proud of him for participating but angry that as a closeted gay man I couldn't even cheer my straight friend on as a spectator. If I'd been questioned, I would have concocted half truths. What a shame to have to lie at a celebration of pride. I want to do the right thing and not hide anymore. I want to march for tolerance, acceptance and understanding. I want to take a stand and say, "Me, too."

The recent Boston Marathon bombing reinforced the notion that I shouldn't wait for the circumstances of my coming out to be perfect. Things can change in an instant, so why not live truthfully? When I told Joe a few weeks ago that I was gay, he was grateful that I trusted him. He asked me to join him in 2013. We'll be marching on June 8.
No one wants to live in fear. I've always been scared of saying the wrong thing. I don't sleep well. I never have. But each time I tell another person, I feel stronger and sleep a little more soundly. It takes an enormous amount of energy to guard such a big secret. I've endured years of misery and gone to enormous lengths to live a lie. I was certain that my world would fall apart if anyone knew. And yet when I acknowledged my sexuality I felt whole for the first time. I still had the same sense of humor, I still had the same mannerisms and my friends still had my back.
Believe it or not, my family has had bigger shocks. Strange as it seems today, my parents expected only one child in 1978. Me. When I came out (for the first time) the doctors congratulated my mother on her healthy, seven-pound, one-ounce baby boy. "Wait!" said a nurse. "Here comes another one!" The other one, who arrived eight minutes later and three ounces heavier, was Jarron. He's followed me ever since, to Stanford and to the NBA, and as the ever-so-slightly older brother I've looked out for him.
I had a happy childhood in the suburbs of L.A. My parents instilled in us an appreciation of history, art and, most important, Motown. Jarron and I weren't allowed to listen to rap until we were 12. After our birthday I dashed to Target and bought DJ Quik's album Quik Is the Name. I memorized every line. It was around this time that I began noticing subtle differences between Jarron and me. Our twinness was no longer synchronized. I couldn't identify with his attraction to girls.

I feel blessed that I recognized my own attractions. Though I resisted my impulses through high school, I knew that when I was ready I had someone to turn to: my uncle Mark in New York. I knew we could talk without judgment, and we did last summer. Uncle Mark is gay. He and his partner have been in a stable relationship forever. For a confused young boy, I can think of no better role model of love and compassion.
I didn't come out to my brother until last summer. His reaction to my breakfast revelation was radically different from Aunt Teri's. He was downright astounded. He never suspected. So much for twin telepathy. But by dinner that night, he was full of brotherly love. For the first time in our lives, he wanted to step in and protect me.
Its a pretty long statement. Continue reading here

Iron Man 3 grosses $200 million in 5 days

Posted on 05:32 by Unknown
Iron Man 3 Poster
Iron Man 3 has surpassed last year's epic superhero team-up movie 'The Avengers' by grossing nearly $200 million in the international box office.
The movie's total haul, which includes openings in Europe, Asia, Australia and South America, surpasses the $185.1 million earned by 'The Avengers' last year.
According to Dave Hollis, Disney's distribution executive: ''The surprise is the magnitude of this opening, not necessarily that audiences are responding to the movie. We believe this to be a strong indication of what will lead to extraordinary word-of-mouth worldwide.
''As people start reading headlines of the size of this opening, I suspect it will act as a catalyst for the Thursday night opening Stateside.''
The United Kingdom led the way, where the flick grossed $21.5 million in its opening weekend, while Korea and Australia followed with $19.2 and $18.4 million respectively.
The action movie's blockbuster takings are all the more impressive as it has yet to open in the United States, Russia, Germany and China.
'Iron Man 3' is predicted to shatter the overseas grosses of its predecessors, 2008's 'Iron Man' and 2010's 'Iron Man 2', and it is predicted to open with $120 million when it hits cinemas in the US on May 3.

Top Number Portability adverts (MTN, Airtel, Etisalat and Glo)

Posted on 10:21 by Unknown
The recent introduction of number portability service into the Nigerian Telecommunications Industry by the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) is shaking up the base of top network providers in the country. This has led to a porting ad war amongst network providers in a bid to attract and/or keep customers - with both MTN and Etisalat at the receiving end of disses.
It seems the network provider, instead of improving their services (which are abysymally poor) are rather interested in wooing customers with hilarious adverts. Anyway if we are to oblige them and choose a network to port to based on the ads released so far, here are our picks.

1. MTN

Etisalat didn't see this coming but it was a major loss for the network whose brand is almost now synonymous to ace comedian Saka. Saka was popular with the Etisalat brand and nobody expected him to 'port' to MTN. Hee is unveiled in the commercial as he sings the theme song, emphasizing on  'I don port o... to MTN. Hilarious!

2. AIRTEL

Airtel kept it classy while taking shots at MTN. The ad shows a mobile man relocating from a dilapidated yellow painted building (presumably MTN) to a cleaner posh neighbourhood with houses painted red.Classy!

3. GLO

Glo also takes a swipe at MTN but we are not feeling the ad. We are not convinced enough to switch to Glo with this ad. We hope they will come up with a new portability ad since this one was released last year.

Etisalat
Etisalat is yet to respond to the MTN diss by releasing their own porting commercial but we know they have something funny in their sleeves. We see Etisalat beating them all in this game.

Gywneth Palthrow is People Magazine's Most Beautiful Woman in The World 2013

Posted on 11:24 by Unknown
A lot of critics disagree with actress Gywneth Palthrow being named the Most Beautiful Woman In The World by People magazine but I think she looks pretty amazing for her age and considering she's had two growing kids. Anyway this is some good publicity for the Iron Man 3 movie hitting theaters next month on which she co-stared. Good Publicity!
The actress credits her workout routine for keeping her youthful. Here's a glimpse of her interview with People Magazine.

"It makes me look younger and feel strong," says the actress [about her workout routine], who does the Tracy Anderson Method five days a week. "When I first started, I thought, 'I'll never be good at this. This is a nightmare!' But now it's like brushing my teeth, I just do it."
More importantly, she hopes to instill a good body image in both her kids, especially now that her daughter is starting to become interested in things like makeup. "When we're home sometimes, she'll put on mascara. And sometimes I'll let her wear something out to dinner – but just a little dab," she says.
"Also having a father who adores you the way that he adores her is very good for your body image. The more we can love her and let her be who she is, the more confident she'll feel."
The magazine hits newsstands this Friday with her full interview. Here are some shots of  Gywneth Palthrow- The Most Beautiful Woman in the World.

Kate Middleton Dazzles in Spring Pregnancy Dress. Baby's Name Revealed

Posted on 09:38 by Unknown
We love ourselves some Kate Middleton and her fabulous fashion taste is one reason why we love her. The Pregnant Duchess of Cambridge visited the Willows Primary School in Manchester, England, on Wednesday, and looked quite glamorous in her growing baby bump in a navy and raspberry print Erdem shift dress.
She was all smiles as she launched a charitable project designed to help children and their families in the under-privileged community combat chemical addiction. The new initiative will be supported by two of her charities, Place2Be and Action on Addiction, in partnership with Comic Relief and the Royal Foundation.

In related news, new reports have confirmed our earlier story  that the royal family are expecting a baby girl this July. A close family friend tells OK! magazine the royal baby will indeed be a girl. And her name is already picked out — Alexandra!
“They love the name. Wills has even tried it out when he talks to Kate’s baby bump,” disclosed the source.
Alexandra is a rather unconventional option than Diana or Elizabeth, believed to be the front-runners for the royal baby moniker, but it still is a salute to William’s family. His grandmother,Queen Elizabeth II, goes by a middle name Alexandra!

The picture is quite funny. Very awkward greeting position for Bill Gates. We hope the President is not offended. The picture made headlines across South Korean newspapers, with headlines such as:

"Cultural difference, or an act of disrespect?" the JoongAng Ilbo wrote in the accompanying caption.

"Disrespectful handshake? Casual handshake?" the Dong-A Ilbo asked.

Cultural difference or disrespect? South Koreans are not happy and @msryu67 on twitter sums it up:
"Even considering the cultural difference, there is an appropriate manner for certain occasions ... how can he put his hand in his pocket when meeting a leader of the state?" she tweeted!

Josh Wilding: IRON MAN 3 is amazing. Quite possibly the best solo Marvel movie yet. There's a twist which might upset some, but I loved it

In related news, Gameloft has confirmed the Iron Man 3 game will launch on Android and iOS together on April 25th. Catch the game trailer below. The Iron Man 3 contest is also running. Enter and stand a chance to win a Harley Davidson Motorcycle. Entries end May 31.

Pay Less For Products With Penny Auctions

Posted on 09:40 by Unknown
What is a Penny auction
Penny auctions are all the rage on the internet and, believe it or not, they are legal. You may have heard of this shopping model before. They go a little something like this: buy a bid pack, bid on an auction with those bids and win a product! Sounds simple right? Well, that isn’t always the case.
Penny auctions require some skill in auction bidding and education about the online model, and it is within your best interest to tread carefully when you’re bidding on a product. It’s great that there are sites out there offering you the latest Chanel perfume, Juicy Couture handbag, or iPhone 5 at a heavily reduced price, but that is dependent on if you bid strategically. You will learn what to consider when you aim to pay less for products on penny auction sites in this article.

How To Win Penny Auctions

Stick With Popular Auction Sites
Larger Penny auction sites are more popular, reliable and safer than lesser known penny auctions online. A smaller penny auction site may appear to have great deals, but you could be bidding against scripts. Some start-up penny auction sites add scripts known as bots to their sites to give the illusion that they have hundreds of bidders, when in actuality they don’t. In the end, you spend bids with the mindset that you are competing with other people, but they are not human. Also, bots are illegal, so you are definitely better off spending your cash at a more reputable penny auction site.

Find Out Where They Ship
If you’ve won a penny auction, congratulations! But, are you sure your item can be shipped to you? Make sure you find out the countries to which a penny auction site will ship. If you live in the US, Canada or the UK, it’s very likely shipping won’t be an issue, but anywhere else might result in extra costs or result in you not being eligible to receive your auction win. You wouldn’t want that after all your hard effort bidding.

Bid in the Morning
Here’s the inside scoop. Beezid is a big penny auction site that has many bidders and experienced auction winners. If you are new to bidding and want an advantage, then bid on auctions that take place in the morning time. Beezidhas already made this public on their Twitter feed and it’s no surprise since many winners have walked away with auction products worth $42.99 for as little as $0.02.

Seek Auctions with Safeguards
Some penny auctions offer their customers safeguards when bidding. For instance, let’s say you were unsuccessful in an auction for a Samsung Galaxy tablet. Most reputable auctions will have some sort of buy-it-now feature, offering you the opportunity to buy the product and have all the bids you just spent returned to your account. Some sites will also provide penny auctions exclusive to newbies. Look out for things like cherry auctions or names like Guaranteed Win, which are designed and catered to bidders that might be trying out penny auctions for the first time.

Look For Promotional Events
On a normal day, bidding on a penny auction may sound like a good idea. However, you will see greater bang for your buck if you participate in auctions on sites that have a special promotional event happening. Look for things like events that include price freezes or refunds on bids. These are great ways to stretch your money and bids much further.

So as you can see, bidding on penny auctions can be a great opportunity to get your favorite designer brands for less. Just remember to do your homework before, go for more reputable sites like Beezid and bid on auctions in the morning, and make sure you keep your eyes open for deals to help you get the most out of your bids.

Jay Z sells Nets share to fully become a sports agent

Posted on 07:30 by Unknown
According to reports from Yahoo Sports rap mogul Jay-Z is seeking to sell his stake in the Brooklyn Nets in order to expand his fledgling sports representation business into basketball.
The rapper recently acquired Robinson Cano as a client under his sports flagship Roc Nation Sports in partnership with Creative Artists Agency and has begun the process of obtaining his National Basketball Players Association certification as an agent. This would require him to relinquish ownership of the Nets according to the report.
Jay Z owns less than 1 percent of the Brooklyn Nets. Selling his stake is necessary for him to get certification as an agent from the National Basketball Players Association, says Yahoo.

Jay Z who is married to Beyonce helped in rebranding the team including designing the team's uniform and choosing the colours.

“I would say (Jay-Z) had an enormous amount to do with the re-branding of the team,” Nets coach P.J. Carlesimo said before Tuesday’s game against the 76ers. “I was not close to it at all, but from what I heard and what I read and saw, he was huge — it would be hard to overstate how important he was to the rebranding.
"So it would be disappointing (if he left the Nets). I would be disappointed. I like his involvement with our team."

New York Giants' Victor Cruz is reported to be on the verge of joining Cano at Jay-Z's Roc Nation Sports.

Best Headphones: SMS Audio

Posted on 12:01 by Unknown
If you love listening to music, you will be intrigued to discover the difference a headphone can make to your music and indeed audio listening experience. While some headphones with the help of advance technology produces distinct sound qualities ranging from voice clarity to distinct sound pick up, others produce poor or ''regular' sound qualities that will not enable you to fully enjoy and appreciate your music/audio. The former is why music lovers are always on the lookout for the best headphones to buy, join me as I review the SMS Audio headphones in this edition of my best headphones reviews.
SMS Audio is a first-class audio headphone and accessories brand. The company is the brainchild of multi-platinum selling rapper 50 cent, with Grammy award winning mega producer, Timberland serving as the design and audio engineer for the company.
The SMS Audio headphone comes in three sets ranging from wireless headphones to in ear headphones. They include SYNC by 50 - Over Ear Wireless headphones, STREET by 50 Over Ear wired headphones and the STREET by 50 - In Ear Wired headphones.
For the wireless sets, the Sync by 50 utilizes Kleer lossless audio technology to stream audio instead of the regular Bluetooth. Kleer's wireless audio technology is the best technology right now for transmitting music wirelessly. It  touts a 16-bit CD-quality resolution, 44.1-KHz audio, a higher bandwidth than Bluetooth and the ability for  four Sync users to simultaneously listen to a single audio source.
I used the street by 50 in ear wired headphones and from the results I got, I think its safe to rate it as one of the best headphones you could find out there. First, it has a sleek design, with a touch of class. If your fashion sense is classy, then you may want to consider the SMS audio as a fashion accessory but that is not a reason why you should buy a headphone in the first place.

All about sound

After unpacking the street by 50 in ear headphones from its neatly packed box and glancing through the manual, I plugged the ear headphones to my Samsung Galaxy S3 smartphone, opened my audio file and tapped to play Nicki Minaj's I am your leader. I was totally blown away by the deep bass the headphone produced.

The vocals were also clear and distinct from the beats too. Next, I played we are young by Fun and continued playing music from different genres. The audio quality from the street by 50 headphones was impressive, even better than my experience with Beats by Dr. Dre in ear headphones. The SMS Audio headphones is also, a lot more durable than Beats by Dr. Dre. According to a review by popular tech site, Techcrunch
The Streets by 50 give you a more robust and stronger product. Flexible in every way and sturdy means they destroy the beats in terms of durability.
Overall, I consider this the best headphone if you are a fan of Hip Hop/R&B music or generally, if you love a little more bass in your audio.

Here is more reason why you should buy the SMS Audio headphones if you care about charity. The company, through its partnership with feeding America will provide  250 meals to American families in need with each online US purchase of SMS Audio headphone through their website.

Lady Gaga turned down $1 million from Republicans

Posted on 09:52 by Unknown

Our respect for Lady Gaga just increased a little further. This republicans will do anything to be relevant anyway. Here is the report from starpulse
Pop superstar Lady Gaga rejected a $1 million offer to give presidential candidate Mitt Romney a big boost in the run-up to the election last year by performing at the Republican National Convention.

Court documents unveiled this week reveal the Poker Face hit-maker had been approached by organizers of the Republican Party's pre-election gathering to hit the stage at the Tampa, Florida event, even though she's one of the most outspoken gay rights advocates and a fan of Romney's Democratic rival Barack Obama.

Representatives at the American Action Network, the group behind the convention, even tried to sway Gaga by offering to donate $150,000 to a domestic violence shelter in exchange for her participation.

The details emerged in legal papers submitted to the District Court in Washington, D.C. as part of a legal battle between the American Action Network and entertainment vendor Cater America over a scrapped Lynyrd Skynyrd concert, which was axed ahead of the RNC due to the threat of Hurricane Isaac in late August.
